Jefferson Airplane Lyrics - A Story of Flight

by Jonathan Walter
(Kansas City, MO)

"Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head"
- Jefferson Airplane

The song “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane was playing as I drove into the airport parking lot for my first flight with Doctor Bell.

The lyrics "Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head" would not leave my mind as I sat in the cockpit and thought about the task ahead.

I had several hours of ground school underneath my belt and I felt as though I could fly the plane without Doc; that’s how good his ground instruction was.

But I kept coming back to that song and those lyrics "Feed your head. Feed your head. Feed your head". What did it mean and why was I obsessing over it? And then it came to me, that’s what I’ve been doing this whole time, I’ve been feeding my head with all this amazing information about aerodynamics, aircraft controls and instruments and now I would be prepared for this first flight and all my flying to come.

And that’s the brilliance of Doctor Bell’s teaching method; you learn everything on the ground first so that you have a strong foundation and most importantly you don’t waste time and money burning up the skies.

Thanks Doc…
